چکیده

Case Presentation A 40-year-old woman presented with recurrent syncope. She reported multiple (>20) episodes of non-prodromal loss consciousness, periodically provoked by physical exertion. One episode resulted in a nasal fracture due to the abrupt nature her The characterization each was inconsistent neurogenic seizure. Other causes syncope (vasovagal, situational, carotid hypersensitivity, and orthostasis) were also deemed unlikely. On examination, low-pitched, brief adventitious sound appreciated after S2 right lower sternal border. remainder examination unremarkable. Initial workup, including complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, cardiac enzymes, ECG yielded normal results. chest radiograph did not show any gross or pulmonary parenchymal pathologic condition ( Fig 1 ). Telemetry demonstrate malignant arrhythmias, video-guided EEG document seizure activity.

Cardiogenic syncope and epilepsy.

SYNCOPE has been defined as 'a failure of the heart's action resulting in loss of consciousness or sometimes in death' (O.E.D.). Since Gower's discussion of vaso-vagal attacks (1907) many forms of reflex syncope have been described and studied, among them cough syncope (Baker, 1949), carotid sinus syncope (Weiss, 1935) and micturition syncope (Coggins, Lillington & Gray, 1964). The sudden and t...

Cardiogenic syncope and serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

T he conventional pathophysiological view of the mechanism of neurocardiogenic syncope involves the activation of peripheral baroreceptors, as occurs in the Bezold-Jarisch reflex, in which there is a reflex withdrawal of sympathetic tone and an increase in parasympathetic tone. The result of these changes is a dramatic fall in blood pressure with or without excessive bradycardia, leading to a r...

Recurrent Postural Vasovagal Syncope

Background—The pathophysiology of vasovagal syncope is poorly understood, and the treatment usually ineffective. Our clinical experience is that patients with vasovagal syncope fall into 2 groups, based on their supine systolic blood pressure, which is either normal ( 100 mm Hg) or low (70–100 mm Hg). We investigated neural circulatory control in these 2 phenotypes. Methods and Results—Sympathe...

Recurrent laughter-induced syncope.

INTRODUCTION Syncope is a common presenting complaint in Neurology clinics or Emergency departments, but its causes are sometimes difficult to diagnose. Apart from vasovagal attacks, other benign, neurally mediated syncopes include "situational" syncopes, which occur after urination, coughing, swallowing, or defecation. CASE REPORT A healthy 42-year-old male patient presented to the neurology...

A patient with recurrent syncope.

A 43 year old man presented to the accident and emergency department with a history of feeling light headed followed by loss of consciousness after he had just finished jogging. There was no associated chest pain, palpitations, or seizure activity. He admitted to feeling dizzy and presyncopal almost every time after performing any strenuous exercise. Physical examination and blood investigation...
